Description
Rich sapphire-blue Kyanite blades radiate through a contrasting white Quartz cluster, creating a substantial sculptural display from every angle.
This substantial Brazilian cabinet specimen features densely intergrown Blue Kyanite blades surrounding and passing through a prominent white Quartz crystal cluster. Its elongated, layered formation gives the piece a dramatic three-dimensional profile.
The Kyanite ranges from soft steel blue to concentrated sapphire blue, with natural longitudinal striations clearly visible along the bladed crystals. Areas of stronger saturation create distinct focal points among the paler blue growth.
Colourless to milky white Quartz occupies the central part of the specimen and appears between the Kyanite blades elsewhere, providing brightness, sparkle and strong mineral contrast. The custom acrylic and metal stand supports the piece horizontally and allows its sculptural form to be viewed from several directions.
Measuring 22 cm across and weighing 1.107 kg, this is a genuine large cabinet display specimen with considerable width, texture and visual presence.
Locality: Brazil. A more precise mine or regional locality was not supplied and is therefore not claimed.
Handling and care: Move the specimen using its stand and support the mineral from beneath when necessary. Avoid pressure on individual Kyanite blades or Quartz points. Keep dry and clean only with a soft brush.
The bladed growth described here gives the specimen a strong sense of direction. Overlapping elongated forms create layers and spaces through the group, while reflections emphasise individual edges. The overall arrangement is worth appreciating alongside the details of each exposed surface, particularly when comparing the piece with more compact crystal clusters.
The accompanying Quartz brings a silicate crystal habit into the association. Its surfaces and crystal outlines contrast with the featured mineral, giving the specimen more than one kind of growth to examine. The way the minerals occupy the same piece is part of its character: the setting retains their natural relationship and adds depth to the overall display.
Kyanite is an aluminium silicate associated particularly with metamorphic rocks. Its elongated, bladed crystals and frequent blue colour give it a recognisable appearance. A notable property is that its hardness differs with direction in the crystal. This illustrates why the internal structure of a mineral matters as much as its external colour.
A matrix specimen allows the blades to be seen in their natural setting. Their direction, overlap and contrast with recorded accompanying material contribute to the display. Broader faces may show a pearly or glassy reflection, while edges define the elongated outline. For collectors, Kyanite offers a different habit to pointed Quartz or compact crystal groups, adding variety in both shape and geological context.
The recorded origin is Brazil. Within a collection of Kyanite specimens, this locality gives the piece a geographical identity alongside its particular crystal habit and natural setting.
The specimen measures 22 × 8 × 8 cm, with a recorded weight of 1.107 kg. Its scale gives the natural architecture room to be appreciated as a whole, while the finer growth provides detail for closer study.
Condition: Natural contacts, cleavages, incomplete blade terminations and extraction-related irregularities are typical of Kyanite specimens and may be present. Please examine all seven photographs carefully; the exact specimen shown will be supplied.
Support the stable matrix or the supplied mount when moving the specimen, avoiding pressure on projecting growth. A secure indoor display allows its natural form and surface detail to be appreciated while protecting exposed crystal edges.
