Iridescent Chalcopyrite on White Dolomite
China — attributed; exact locality unknown
£90
Description
An eye-catching specimen featuring brassy gold metallic crystals with vivid flashes of purple, magenta and electric blue against a contrasting white crystalline matrix. The metallic crystals are scattered across the cluster, creating points of colour around its broad, sculptural outline.
The white crystals show blocky, rhombohedral forms consistent with Dolomite, possibly accompanied by Calcite. Their pale surfaces provide a striking backdrop to the metallic lustre, while open recesses and overlapping growth give the specimen depth from several viewing angles.
Weighing 217.29 grams and measuring 90 × 80 × 40 mm, this small cabinet specimen offers an attractive combination of colour, texture and crystal form. The five photographs show the individual piece offered for sale.
The specimen is attributed to China, but the original seller did not provide documented provenance and the exact locality is unknown. Chalcopyrite and Dolomite are provisional visual identifications from photographs; previous surface treatment is unknown.
